It was exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and from there the Evans Products Company began the production of the chair from 1946 to 1949 and then Herman Miller took over from 1949 to 1957.
The low slung, carefully crafted seat and back was very comfortable and durable.
It is thought of as one of the 20th Century's best furniture designs. |
There were other versions produced of the LCW chair, these were the LCM and DCM and they had metal legs.
All of these chairs were designed with the end user in mind as well as the manufacturing process, there were few pieces of the chair and the minimal amount of parts and materials, made for successful mass production.
The LCW was available in timber veneer and was able to be upholstered in leather or fabric, "slunkskin" or aniline dyed versions of black, red or yellow.
Overall a very comfortable versatile chair.
